Engineered for high-stress oil, gas, water, and municipal pipeline systems globally.
In modern high-temperature and high-pressure oil and gas pipeline transportation, the integrity of the corrosion protection system is paramount. The 3-Layer Polypropylene (3LPP) coating system has emerged as the industry benchmark for land and offshore pipelines operating at temperatures ranging from -20°C to +110°C (and up to +120°C in customized applications). However, while the main body of the pipe (the mill-applied coating) is exceptionally secure, the field joint area—where pipe segments are welded together onsite—remains the most vulnerable link.
As a leading high-tech manufacturer, CYCT New Materials Company Limited provides professional-grade, field-proven 3LPP Heat Shrinkable Tapes designed specifically to replicate the performance of mill-applied 3LPP coatings at the field joint. Our products provide a seamless, continuous barrier that resists mechanical damage, soil stress, thermal aging, and chemical attack.
Our 3LPP heat shrinkable tape operates on a synergetic three-layer mechanism: (1) A solvent-free liquid epoxy primer that bonds directly to the blasted steel surface, offering excellent cathodic disbondment resistance; (2) An intermediate copolymer hot-melt adhesive that chemically bonds with the primer and the outer backing; (3) A radiation-crosslinked, high-density polypropylene (PP) backing that shrinks under heat, applying consistent radial pressure while offering heavy-duty mechanical protection.
Capable of sustaining constant operation at high temperatures without adhesive shear deformation or backing degradation.
High resistance to indentation, impact, penetration, and soil stress during pipeline backfilling and directional drilling.
Maintains ultra-low cathodic disbondment values under elevated temperatures, meeting ISO 21809-3 requirements.
CYCT New Materials Company Limited (for short, CYCT), founded in 2000, is a state-level high-tech enterprise integrating R&D, production, and sales of pipeline corrosion protection materials. Over the decades, CYCT has built a reputation for excellence, offering not just high-performance protective materials, but also specialized buried pipeline detection services and pipeline coating field application services.
CYCT owns leading testing and R&D capabilities, backed by a professional R&D team and a national CNAS-accredited laboratory. Our close cooperation with leading research institutions, such as the CNPC Pipeline Science Research Institute, allows us to provide in-service pipelines with varied technical services including buried pipeline detection, cathodic protection design, pipeline rehabilitation, and complete integrated safety solutions.
As a stable and long-term supplier of field joint coatings for PetroChina, Sinopec, PipeChina, and local municipal pipelines, CYCT maintains a dominant market share in China. Furthermore, CYCT has expanded its footprint globally, providing solutions to major international entities such as Indian Oil.
As pipeline engineering shifts towards deeper wells, higher pressure gradients, and longer transmission spans, the performance demands on coatings continue to escalate. At CYCT, our technical roadmap targets zero-defect performance, sustainable chemistry, and intelligent application methods.
Developing next-generation copolymer hot-melt adhesives using metallocene-catalyzed polypropylene. This drastically improves low-temperature flexibility while maintaining exceptional high-temperature shear resistance up to 130°C.
Optimizing the electron-beam radiation dosage to achieve a highly uniform cross-linking density throughout the PP backing. This process guarantees an optimal heat-shrink ratio (up to 20%-35%) without compromising tensile strength or elasticity.
Researching smart thermochromic backings that visually indicate complete shrink-activation and uniform heat distribution, minimizing human error during manual installation in the field.
The global petrochemical and pipeline construction sector operates on tight schedules where delays cost millions of dollars. Partnering with a leading Chinese factory like CYCT provides structural and logistical advantages that ensure your project remains on schedule and within budget.
CYCT maintains direct partnerships with top-tier domestic polymer manufacturers. This ensures a stable supply of specialty polypropylene resins and copolymer formulations, protecting our clients from international market price fluctuations and supply crunches.
Every batch of our 3LPP heat shrinkable tape undergoes destructive and non-destructive testing in our CNAS laboratory. Tests include peel strength tests (at room temperature and 110°C), cathodic disbondment resistance tests, impact resistance, and elongation-at-break tests, ensuring compliance with global pipeline standards.
Equipped with multi-layer co-extrusion backing lines and wide-width adhesive lamination equipment, CYCT can fulfill high-volume orders for major transcontinental pipeline projects within tight lead times.

CYCT pipeline corrosion protection solutions are deployed across diverse geographical landscapes. From the hyper-arid, high-temperature deserts of the Middle East to the sub-zero permafrost regions of Siberia, our 3LPP tapes protect vital infrastructure.
We recognize that different regions present unique installation and environmental challenges. In high-temperature zones, we provide high-softening-point adhesives to resist soil stress. For HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) pull-through operations, we offer fiberglass-reinforced sleeves that protect the primary joint from sharp rocks and mechanical friction.
To ensure reliable application, CYCT offers remote and on-site engineering training programs for contractor teams. Proper pre-heating of the steel (using induction coils or gas torches) and precise application of the solvent-free liquid epoxy primer are critical to achieving the design life of the system. Our support ensures your field crew performs the installation perfectly every time.
Our adherence to international standards has earned CYCT prestigious honors and memberships in international corrosion protection associations. We are proud members of the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection (CSCP) and the China Association of Petroleum Engineering Construction (CAPEC).
The primary differences lie in operational temperature limits, polymer crystallinity, and mechanical hardness. 3LPE (3-Layer Polyethylene) systems are designed for operations up to 80°C. 3LPP (3-Layer Polypropylene) systems feature a higher melting point and superior mechanical resistance, enabling them to operate in temperatures up to 110°C - 120°C. Polypropylene is also harder and more scratch-resistant than Polyethylene, making it suitable for rocky backfills and heavy-stress installations.
The liquid epoxy primer forms a strong chemical bond with the blast-cleaned steel substrate. This layer is responsible for preventing cathodic disbondment (CD) and providing long-term corrosion resistance. Without this primer, the hot-melt adhesive cannot bond adequately to the steel, increasing the risk of water ingress and subsequent under-film corrosion.
The steel joint area must be abrasive blasted to a minimum standard of Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1), with a rough profile between 50 to 90 microns. The adjacent mill-applied 3LPP coating must be chamfered (bevelled) at a 30-degree angle and abraded for at least 100mm to ensure a secure, overlap bond with the heat shrinkable tape.
Our PP repair patches are manufactured using the same high-specification polypropylene backing and copolymer adhesive as our heat shrinkable sleeves. This ensures chemical compatibility and uniform thermal expansion. They are tested under ISO 21809-3 standards to guarantee that repaired areas achieve the same design life and protection level as the undamaged parent coating.
When stored in a dry, ventilated environment at temperatures below 35°C and kept away from direct sunlight, our tapes have a shelf life of up to 2 years from the date of manufacture. The properties of the copolymer adhesive and crosslinked backing remain fully stable within this timeframe.
