CYCT New Materials Company Limited (for short, CYCT) is a state-level high-tech enterprise integrating R&D, production and sales of pipeline corrosion protection materials as well as buried pipeline detection services and pipeline coating field application services into one integrated system. Established in 2000, CYCT has devoted itself to solving the most complex pipeline integrity challenges for over two decades.

CYCT owns leading testing and R&D capabilities, backed by a highly specialized team of material scientists, corrosion engineers, and structural analysts. By operating our national CNAS-accredited laboratory, we ensure every batch of heat shrinkable protective tapes, viscoelastic coatings, and photo-curing sleeves undergoes rigorous testing to meet strict ISO, EN, and ASTM standards. We are honored to serve as a stable supplier of field joint coatings and pipeline materials for global energy enterprises, including PetroChina, Sinopec, PipeChina, China Gas Group, and Indian Oil.

Industry Trends for Heat Shrinkable Protective Tape

Uncovering the shift toward high-performance materials, extreme environments, and sustainability.

Next-Gen Polymer Blending

Modern protective tapes utilize radiation cross-linked high-density polyethylene (HDPE) backing. This molecular structure offers superior mechanical strength, resisting soil stress and thermal expansion better than traditional alternatives.

Eco-Friendly Formulations

VOC regulations and stringent HSE guidelines are reshaping adhesive technologies. Transitioning to solvent-free, high-solid hot melts and viscoelastic compounds ensures environmentally non-hazardous installations.

Digital Inspection Integration

Intelligent, color-shifting markers embedded in heat shrink layers allow inspectors to verify uniform heat application and shrink completeness. This dramatically reduces human error and field joint inspection times.

Technical Specification & Material Profiles

Shelf Life Up to 5 years (cool, dry storage) Indefinite (does not cure) 12–24 months (curing dependent)

Macro-Industry Corrosion Prevention Solutions

Custom-engineered application systems designed to defend assets against harsh geological conditions.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Protection

Trenchless pipeline installation subjects steel pipes to heavy mechanical friction, shear stress, and rocky abrasions. Our specialized Epoxy FRP & GRP photo-curing protective sleeves act as sacrificial outer layers, preventing damage to the primary anti-corrosion barrier.

Offshore Marine Anti-Corrosion

Splashing zones and deep-sea currents expose pipes to highly corrosive saltwater and microbial activity. CYG Changtong GRF moisture-curing shields provide long-term barrier properties, isolating metal surfaces from moisture and oxygen.

High-Temperature Pipeline Rehabilitation

Operating hot oil and gas lines require field joint coatings that withstand temperatures up to 85°C without peeling. Our hot melt sticks, repair patches, and viscoelastic tapes offer self-healing properties that keep aging networks running smoothly.

Technology Roadmap & Future Outlook

Pushing the boundaries of material science to secure the next generation of energy infrastructure.

2025–2026: Nano-Engineered Adhesives

Integrating carbon nanotube (CNT) matrices within our hot-melt adhesive formulations to improve shear strength and maximize thermal dissipation on high-temperature gas transmission lines.

2027–2028: Smart-Curing GRP Sheets

Refining our photo-curing sleeves to react efficiently with low-energy UV light sources. This minimizes field power requirements and improves installation speeds for offshore work.

2029–2030: Bio-based Polyolefins

Replacing petroleum-derived PE backing with bio-based high-density polyethylene polymer matrices to reduce carbon footprints while maintaining physical and mechanical protection properties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common technical queries about our heat shrinkable protective tapes and coatings.

What is the difference between a heat shrinkable sleeve and a heat shrinkable protective tape?
Heat shrinkable sleeves are typically pre-cut wrap-around sheets designed for field joint coating on specific pipe diameters, utilizing closure patches. Heat shrinkable protective tape is provided in continuous rolls, allowing technicians to wrap arbitrary configurations (bends, tees, valves, and long pipe sections) with custom overlap levels, ensuring flexible coverage.
Why is radiation cross-linking critical for PE backing?
Radiation cross-linking changes the molecular structure of polyethylene from linear chains to a three-dimensional network. This cross-linked network gives the PE backing "elastic memory," allowing it to shrink tightly upon heating, while providing superior resistance to abrasion, puncture, soil stress, and environmental stress cracking.
What type of surface preparation is required before application?
For optimum performance, the steel pipe surface should be abrasive blast-cleaned to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2½ (or SSPC-SP10) to create a good anchor pattern. The surface must be clean, dry, and free of grease. For certain systems, preheating the steel pipe substrate to 60°C - 80°C is required to achieve the necessary adhesive bond.
Can you customize adhesives for high-ambient-temperature regions?
Yes, we formulate hot-melt and viscoelastic adhesives for varying climatic conditions. For desert environments, we offer high-shear hot-melts rated up to 85°C or higher to prevent sag and sliding caused by high soil temperatures.
How does CYCT guarantee raw material quality?
CYCT sources high-grade polymer resins and chemical additives from global leaders. Each batch is verified in our national CNAS-accredited laboratory, testing for melt flow index, tensile strength, elongation at break, and thermal stability before releasing it to the extrusion lines.
