The Hot Melt Stick is specifically designed to repair small, superficial damage such as scratches on pipeline PE-coatings, provided the damage has not exposed the bare steel substrate.
It is manufactured from a heat-sensitive, PE copolymer-based adhesive. This formulation ensures excellent bonding to commercial PE mill-applied coatings, facilitating a virtually monolithic repair interface.
Only a standard gas torch is required for application. No specialized or expensive field equipment is needed, making the repair process highly cost-effective and easy to execute.
The standard size of the stick is 12.0 inches (305 mm) in length and 1.0 inch (25 mm) in diameter. Alternative dimensions can be provided to meet custom client requirements.
It features a softening point of 90ºC (194ºF) according to ASTM E-28 testing standards, and a shear strength of 2.0 MPa at 23ºC (73ºF) under ASTM D-1002, which provides high shear resistance against backfill and soil stresses.
First, remove all sharp edges around the defect, clean the area thoroughly, and preheat the substrate. Heat the stick over the target zone until it becomes glossy, then apply the molten adhesive directly into the scratch, ensuring intimate contact with the surface. No additional filler is required.
